Aerial Reconnaissance

Drone performs aerial reconnaissanceIn either a search-and-rescue scenario or tracking movement of an escapee or group of people, the drone takes photos, and transmits them to the base station for analysis.

Scenario

Search-and-rescue personnel perform systematic searches across a variety of terrain to find a subject. The subject may be a prison escapee, a missing child, or a group of terrorists. In this project we use drones to perform aerial reconnaissance, utilize open-source state-of-the-art solutions for piecing pictures together to form annotated maps which allow analysts to tag interesting phenomenon, and target them for further inspection by the drones. The end result is an interactive search application.

Safety Analysis

The project is quasi safety-critical if search-and-rescue is critical to life and safety of the subjects. No areas must be missed. Annotated sections of the map must be investigated, and potential sightings much be monitored.

Threat Model

Security vulnerabilities include modifying images, changing search algorithms, removing annotations of potential sightings etc. (Threat model pending)
