STEM Outreach Activities

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics -- and includes Computer Science and Engineering. STEM outreach focuses on the need to recruit and retain students into the STEM workforce. This includes a specific focus on recruiting under-represented groups such as females and minorities.

At a recent outreach activity, members of the SAREC lab engaged in Indiana University's
HelloResearch program. HelloResearch is a three day workshop that provides research opportunities for undergraduate women to engage in intensive research projects.

We led a research project that studied the fidelity of physical versus simulated unmanned aerial vehicles. The women in our group designed experiments, wrote code to fly the drones, ran the experiments, collected data, analyzed results, and finally presented their findings.

We are currently working on a group paper to report our results. Our project was featured in an article about the event.
